Guest speakers Chris Chmura and Bob Holsworth will give members an insightful look into the current economic and political climate, as well as a glimpse into how these developments will likely shape the near future of the housing industry. The speaking sessions will be followed by a cocktail reception in the marble hall.

President and Chief Economist , Chmura Economics & Analytics
Chmura Economics & Analytics is a quantitative research and economic development and workforce consulting firm located in Richmond, Virginia, that Chris founded in December 1999. She is an oft-quoted source on regional and national trends, with her comments appearing in national publications such as the Wall Street Journal. She writes a monthly column on the economy for the Richmond Times Dispatch.
Chris was the Chief Economist at Crestar Financial Corporation, formerly the 30th largest bank holding company in the nation. She received her Ph.D. in Business with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her Masters in Economics is from Clemson University as is her undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Prior to spending eight years in banking, Chris was an Associate Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond for seven years.
She currently serves on the Governor’s Economic Advisory Board and the Governor’s Commission on Economic Development & Job Creation. She is a former member of Governor Kaine's Commission on Climate Change, the Virginia Commonwealth University Foundation Board of Trustees and the Board of the National Association of Business Economics.
Her interest rate forecasts are published in the Blue Chip Financial Forecast. The Housing Market Report publishes her forecasts of housing activity. Chris's forecasts are also available in Virginia Economic Trends, the quarterly economic report published by Chmura Economics & Analytics.
Dr. Bob Holsworth
Founder, VirginiaTomorrow.com and Managing Principal of DecideSmart
Dr. Bob Holsworth is the founder of VirginiaTomorrow.com. He is also a Managing Principal of DecideSmart, a company that focuses on enabling innovation to succeed. His observations on national and Virginia politics have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the New York Times, and numerous other papers and newsmagazines. Bob has also appeared on almost all the major American television networks, the BBC and ITN in Great Britain, and Fuji Television in Japan.
Bob has served on a number of commissions and advisory boards. Recently, he chaired Governor McDonnell’s Independent Bipartisan Advisory Commission on Redistricting. He was Executive Director of Governor Mark Warner’s Commission on Efficiency and Effectiveness. He also served as Co-Staff Director of the Commission on the Future of Virginia’s Urban Areas and on the Charter Review Commission for the City of Richmond. Currently, hits on the Governor’s Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment, on the Board of Directors for the Great Aspirations Scholarship Program (GRASP), and on the Regional Leadership Council for Success by Six.
Bob was the founding Director of both the Center for Public Policy and the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has received VCU’s Outstanding Teacher Award and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award.
Holsworth will offer commentary on the upcoming November elections and what the different outcomes will mean for the upcoming session of the General Assembly and Virginia government and politics. Chmura will look ahead to 2014 and what is in store for Virginia’s economy, the economy of Central Virginia, and the real estate market specifically.
