Standing Committees

Standing committees for the Richmond Association of REALTORS® seek applications each Fall for the following year.

Communications Committee

Role: The role of the Communications Committee is to provide input to staff on the consumer-facing campaign and member-facing communications.
Prerequisite Requirements: Applicants must subscribe to Association emails and text messages to qualify to serve. If you need help subscribing, email programs@RARealtors.com.
Term Length: Members of this committee serve a one-year term.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee

Role: The role of the DEI Committee is to develop strategies and promote education and awareness around the values of equity and inclusion in the REALTOR® community, while also seeking opportunities to better represent the diversity of the Association’s membership. In lieu of formal meetings, the Committee may provide learning opportunities open to the general membership.
Prerequisite Requirements: Members of this committee must have successfully completed and passed NAR’s Fairhaven training.
Term Length: Members of this committee serve a one-year term.

Governmental Affairs Committee

Role: The role of the Governmental Affairs Committee is to further strengthen the Association’s public policy efforts by helping to develop the Association’s annual legislative package, serve as an advisory group on state and local public policy issues, and work to raise awareness on policy matters impacting the real estate industry.
Prerequisite Requirements: There are no specific prerequisite requirements for committee service.
Term Length:  Members of this committee serve staggered, two-year terms.

Grievance Committee

Role:The role of the Grievance Committee is to review complaints received from the public and members to determine if the complaint has sufficient substance and merit to warrant an ethics or arbitration hearing.
Prerequisite Requirements: Applicants must have 3 years of active association membership and no prior ethics violations. All members must complete professional standards training at the beginning of committee service.  
Term Length: Members of this committee serve a one-year term. Please note that the committee is limited to 15 members and allows for 5 openings per year. A commitment to full meeting attendance is expected of all members.

Programs Committee

Role: The role of the Programs Committee is to provide input on the professional development, learning opportunities and programs offered by the Association.
Prerequisite Requirements: Members of this committee must have attended at least two RAR classes in the past twelve months, or participated in an RAR professional development program such as the Circle of Excellence or the Leadership Development Academy.  
Term Length:  Members of this committee serve a one-year term.

Appointed Committees

The following committees are appointed by the Richmond Association of REALTORS® and are not open for application.

Budget and Finance Committee

The role of the Budget and Finance Committee is to review spending proposals, review and update the dues and fees schedules, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the allocation of resources. The members of the Budget and Finance Committee are:

  • President-Elect (Chair)
  • President
  • Immediate Past President
  • Vice President
  • 2 Members-at-large (to be selected by the Chair)

Nominating and Elections Committee

The role of the Nominating/Elections Committee is to oversee the process of identifying, nominating, and electing the future leadership of the Richmond Association of REALTORS®. This committee also selects the recipient of the REALTOR® of the Year Award presented annually at Installation. The members of the Nominating and Elections Committee are:

  • Immediate Past President (Chair)
  • President-Elect (Vice Chair)
  • Vice President
  • 1 Current Director (to be selected by the Chair)
  • 1 Member-at-large (to be selected by the Chair)

Philanthropic Committee

RAR has a donor-directed fund at the Community Foundation focused on pre-K, K-12, and after-school time nonprofits that seek to support and enrich the learning experience of our region’s children. The Philanthropic Committee works with Community Foundation staff to identify nonprofits that will receive funding from RAR’s donor-directed fund.

Professional Standards Committee

The role of the Professional Standards Committee is to enforce the Code of Ethics through adjudicator panels required to hear matters of alleged unethical conduct in accordance with the guidelines of the National Association of REALTORS®. Generally, members of this committee have also served on the Grievance Committee first.

RPAC Trustees

The RPAC Trustees help make key decisions on endorsements and financial support for candidates in local-level offices, including the Board of Supervisors, City Council, and Mayor. They also oversee RPAC’s financial well-being. Trustees must have an active interest in and knowledge of the political process and political activity in the community. Trustees encourage active participation in Richmond RPAC and must put aside personal political opinions to work with and select candidates who best represent the interests of the Association.

CVR MLS Committees

Standing committees for the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service (CVR MLS) seek applications each Fall for the following year.

MLS Committee

Role: The role of the MLS Committee is to provide input and guidance to the MLS staff and BOD on the selection and administration of MLS services and technology, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Prerequisite Requirements: There are no specific prerequisite requirements for committee service. Committee applicants are strongly encouraged to have completed a Road Rules class or training within the last 12 months.
Term Length:  Members of this committee serve a two-year term.

Standard Forms Committee

Role: The role of the Standard Forms Committee is to create, review, and revise CVR MLS standard forms used by MLS Participants and Subscribers. The committee ensures that the forms remain in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and consistent with real estate practice in Central Virginia.
Prerequisite Requirements: There are no specific prerequisite requirements for committee service.
Term Length: Members of this committee serve a one-year term. Please note that the committee is limited to 15 members and allows for 5 openings per year. A commitment to full meeting attendance is expected of all members.
