In a tight real estate market, many REALTORS® are farming neighborhoods to identify new prospective clients.
In the Greater Richmond region, Goochland County prohibits door-to-door solicitations concerning real estate brokerage services, including leaving brochures or other materials behind. This activity falls under the county’s no solicitation ordinances and is a prosecutable offense.
As of 2026, the following counties require a permit for door-to-door solicitation:
- Charles City County
- Chesterfield County
- Hanover County
- New Kent County
- Powhatan County
- City of Richmond
- Town of Ashland
Henrico County does not prohibit door-to-door activity or require a permit for real estate professionals.
Please be aware of these ordinances, as well as all other statewide private property, consumer protection, and solicitation laws, as you conduct your business. If you have any questions, contact Governmental Affairs Manager, Kaitlyn Matthews, at kmatthews@RARealtors.com.
