Dues breakdown: RAR $170, VR $175, NAR $185

The federal budget act of 1993 and tax act of 2018 eliminated tax deductions for portions of dues used for lobbying activities. The estimated portions allocated by the Richmond-, Virginia- and National REALTOR® Associations for lobbying on behalf of real estate interests are listed below. These figures should be communicated to your tax consultant.

2021 estimated non-deductible portions of dues:

RAR: 7.7% or $13.09, VR: 11% or $19.25, NAR: 38% or $57.00

Note that the NAR Consumer Advertising Campaign special assessment of $35 is considered a deductible expense.

Advocacy

  • Helped ensure that real estate was deemed essential during the initial COVID-19 lock down
  • Passed legislation allowing homeowners to remove racially restrictive covenants from their home’s deed
  • Supported the creation of the Central Virginia Transportation Authority to ensure a multi-modal transportation future for the Richmond Region
  • Participated in Richmond’s master plan rewrite and Henrico’s zoning code update to encourage more housing choice
  • Engaged in the Midlothian Special Area Plan process

Community Development

  • RAR raised funds for a Regional Housing Framework, Director of Implementation for the Partnership for Housing Affordability
  • RAR staff have spent a total of 74.5 volunteer hours (YTD), giving back to nonprofits within our communities.
  • Through our donor directed fund at The Community Foundation, we’ve been able allocate $62,500 to eleven local educational nonprofits.
  • RAR supported a list of seven housing related charities; ACTS, Better Housing Coalition, Caritas, Homeward, project:HOMES, Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, Urban Hope, Virginia LISC, Virginia Supportive Housing, and Viridiant.
