At its November 2019 meeting, the NAR’s Board of Directors approved a change to the NAR Code of Ethics training requirement. Since 2001, Realtors have been required to take the Code of Ethics training to retain their membership. NAR has amended the requirement from every two years to every three years to give members more time to fit it into their continuing education schedule and to provide local associations adequate time between cycles to administer the program. The current requirement deadline has been extended from December 31, 2020 to December 31, 2021. The next cycle will begin on January 1, 2022, and end December 31, 2024.

RAR members can satisfy their ethics training requirements at any time during the current cycle. It is important to recognize that not all ethics classes meet NAR’s criteria. Only those courses offered or approved by a Realtor Association will satisfy this training requirement. Realtors can check their NAR Code of Ethics status by logging into their account on the NAR web site, NAR.realtor.

RAR will be offering free in-classroom ethics training classes throughout 2020. There is also a free online class available on the NAR web site. If you have questions concerning this Realtor membership requirement or the consequences for non-compliance, ask your Broker or call 804-422-5000.
