Chesterfield County School Board hosted a REALTOR® Town Hall on Wednesday, September 19 at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center.
The open forum discussion with Tim Bullis, Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement, covered topics including; redistricting, school construction plans, and tools for Realtors.
“Chesterfield is the 70th largest county in the country with over sixty thousand students,” explained John Erbach, Chairmen of Chesterfield County School Board. “This year, we’ve purchased new elementary and middle school prototypes. We weighed the pros and cons of renovating vs. rebuilding—it just makes more sense from a cost and safety perspective to replace outdated and even unsecured school buildings.”
The school board voted to build a replacement, smaller Manchester Middle; start replacements for Ettrick, Harrowgate, Reams and Crestwood elementary schools; and accelerated the construction schedule to have all projects built and open by Fall 2021. The new school buildings open the opportunity to rebalance school enrollments, create more efficient operations, develop more defined boundaries and create more neighborhood-friendly schools.
“Who here uses GreatSchools.org?” Bullis joked. “GreatSchools.org to us [Chesterfield County School Board] is the equivalent of Zillow.com to you all. It pulls inaccurate and most often-times, outdated information about our school systems.”
Realtors should point clients to MyChesterfieldSchools.com for updated information on the area’s school systems. MyChesterfieldSchools.com hosts resources for parents and students, information about available programs and much more.
